The Day I Found Out Yolanda was Pregnant

I apologize to those of you who only want pictures of Maya here (you know who you are), but I thought this would be a funny little post to put up. The day I found out Yolanda was pregnant, April 15, 2007, I was out in Munich for work and I had gotten a hookup for tickets to the Bayern Munich soccer game that evening. These are very hard tickets to get, similar probably to getting tickets to a Green Bay Packers game or a New York Yankees game or something like that. My friend Boris, who was pretty much my only non-work friend in Germany, came down from Frankfurt to go to the game with me. That is about a 4 hour drive, but he was raised as a Bayern Munich fan, but had never been to a game. Anyway, here is how the day went.

This is Boris and I at the Hirschgarten. It is widely considered the best Beer Garden in Germany by the Germans themselves and serves delicious Augustiner Helles, the best beer in Germany. Hirschgarten literally translates to deer garden and they actually have deer running around in the park.

Here we have arrived at the stadium via taxi because we stayed at the beer garden too long and did not have time to get the u-bahn subway. This stadium is cool. The color actually changes depending on what team is playing. When Bayern Munich is playing the stadium is red, when 1860 is playing the stadium is Blue and at all other times the stadium is white. It is hard to tell from this picture, but the stadium is actually red here.

Here I am taking a picture of myself and Boris. We are up in the nose bleeds behind the goal.

Another picture. Bayern Munich was playing Bayer Leverkusen this day and came out on top by a score of 2-1.

Here is the big moment. This is when Yolanda called to tell me that she had taken 6 pregnancy tests and they all came back positive. The first thing she asked is if I was drunk. I answered approriately yes, as we had been drinking beer all day. She tried to get out of telling me, but I would not allow it.

This is me immediately after learning that I would be a daddy. Boris has already bought two quite expensive shots to celebrate.

This is Jorge. He is the guy that got us tickets to the game. We are at El Patio, a very good Mexican restaurant run by some transplants from Mexico City living in Munich

Boris and I prost (cheers) to the person who would soon become known as Maya

Waiting in the u-bahn looking to be in deep thought

I look like I am thinking about booking a flight home in this one. I was back in San Diego one week later.
